Heartwood Coffee Roasters has been offering amazing specialty coffee to the lovely people of North East Ohio since 2014 - we feel very blessed to be here in 2021 after starting two cafes and sustaining business through a global pandemic. Our love for the world's best coffee is not the only thing that has carried us here though. Yes, if we didn't seek out the top-rated green, hand-picked coffee; roast it to perfection; and make it accessible in our friendly and comfortable cafes we wouldn't be in business. Good things happen when you offer only the best with all the integrity possible. Yet, the team at Heartwood come from all sorts of walks of life - looking for better opportunities and the chance to make a difference.

When you read the back of a bag of Heartwood, you'll see the words "Grow Together". What it means is this - everything we do at Heartwood, as we grow, should help our community grow. When you come to our cafes to support us, we want you to feel like you're at your second home. When a bag of coffee is ordered online, we want it to be like Christmas morning to receive it in your mailbox. When we sell with a wholesale partner, we want our coffee to help build their business. While we pride ourselves on our ever-growing coffee knowledge and expertise, we know that none of that matters unless we can show the community of North East Ohio we truly care. We're proud to have bags of our coffee in Ohio Artisan Collective!

Did you know that a well made cutting board that is cared for properly can last forever? It's true! Here are a few tips about how to make sure your cutting board lasts.

To Clean – choose one of the following

  1. Warm water with a little bit of dish soap. Scrub gently and rinse thoroughly. Ensure the board is stood up on edge to dry – never laid flat.
  2. Sprinkle the board with coarse salt and add some lemon juice. Scrub with a brush. Rinse. Stand the board on edge to dry.

Dos and Don'ts

  1. Do treat your board well and it will last the rest of your life.
  2. Do treat your board regularly with Brown’s Board Butter available from Wood Thingamajigs.
  3. Do clean thoroughly after every use to prevent future cross contamination.
  4. Do use both sides of your cutting board if it does not have feet on it.
  5. Do spread your cutting over the entire surface of the cutting board.
  1. Do not put your board in the dishwasher. This is the fastest way to ruin your cutting board.
  2. Do not use bleach or anything other than water, lemon juice, salt or dish soap to clean your board.
  3. Do not use food based oils (vegetable, olive, etc) on your board. If the oils go rancid, your board is ruined.
  4. Do not leave a cutting board to soak.

Welcome to our new blog! We are so excited to begin sharing with you all sorts of things that make Ohio Artisan Collective the unique business that it is! The first year was amazing and we have so many things up our sleeves to make all the coming years even more so! As we are sure you can figure out at this point, the first is this brand new website!

Let’s back it up a bit just in case you aren’t familiar with who we are and what we do. As of today, OAC is home to more than 70 Ohio small businesses. We have everything from woodworking to food products, glassware to jewelry, health and beauty products to candles, and so much more! We are constantly growing and evolving our product lines.

We started this journey early last year just as the Pandemic was really hitting hard. About a week before the Ohio shutdown, we learned that the store that is similar to ours at Aurora Farms was closing their doors. We sold our products in that store (we are Makers too). To put it simply, we did not want to lose the audience that shops at Aurora Farms so with the blessing of the other store, Ohio Artisan Collective was born. When Ohio started opening up again, we signed our lease and the journey began! In June 2020, we opened our doors with about 20 Artists, Makers, and Foodies.

In the last year, we have far exceeded even our wildest dreams for this adventure! We are excited for what the future holds for the Ohio community, the small businesses who depend on the store to stay alive and everyone who enjoys these homemade products. Welcome to our first step – our new website!
